Stairwell & landing renovation
A stairwell and landing renovation that exposed Yorkshire stone, restored the stairs and banister, and added bespoke shelving and adapted storage.

The work
The stairwell and landing had lost much of their original detail beneath blown plaster and years of paint. I removed the failed plaster to expose the Yorkshire stone wall, making it a feature of the stairwell rather than covering it again. The existing stair paint was stripped away and the timber was sanded before finishing.
The lower portion of the staircase was treated with hard-wearing Polyx-Oli, with the upper section finished in oil-based floor paint. I fitted wooden balustrades to return the banister to its original look, then prepared and painted the landing walls. Bespoke two-tier shelves were made and fitted, while a mid-century cabinet was adapted for the available space. The pendant was rerouted to sit over the stairwell, where a reclaimed industrial lampshade and other fixtures were fitted.
Finishes
- Polyx-Oil High Solid Clear Matt (stairs)
- Little Greene Goblin Oil Eggshell (stairs)
- Little Greene Stock Oil Eggshell (woodwork)
- Little Greene Stock Matt (walls)
