The work

I built fitted shelving beneath the stairs, shaping each shelf to follow the changing angle of the opening and make practical use of the otherwise awkward space.

Reclaimed scaffolding boards were selected for the shelves, then carefully prepared, cut to size and joined where necessary. The existing marks and imperfections were retained where they added character, while more noticeable gaps and defects were filled with colour-matched filler. The timber was then lightly sanded to smooth the surface without removing too much of its original character, before being finished with a protective wax to bring out the grain and give the shelves a durable, natural finish.
